Colonels Can't Complete Comeback At First Place Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. –
Eastern Kentucky cut a 12-point second half deficit to two, but couldn't complete the comeback bid in a 93-85 loss at first place Austin Peay on Saturday.
 
The Colonels (13-14, 10-4 OVC) whittled a 12-point halftime deficit to four, 52-48, on a baseline jumper from Ty Taylor with 15:13 remaining in the game.  EKU was still down just four, 56-52, when the Governors rolled off eight unanswered to go back on top by 12, 64-52, with 11:27 on the clock.
 
This time Eastern answered with seven straight to key an 18-8 run.  Jomaru Brown scored five of the first seven.  Ty Taylor scored six straight for EKU to cap the run.  His jumper with 5:09 to go made it a two-point game, 72-70.
 
The Governors (18-9, 12-2 OVC) ran out in front by double digits again, 80-70, by scoring the next eight points.  The Colonels made one more charge, closing to within four on a free throw by Brown with 1:23 to play. 
 
Tre King had a team-best 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field.  Brown finished with 20 points.  Taylor had 17 points.
 
Jordyn Adams led all players with 23 points for Austin Peay.  Terry Taylor added 19 points and 13 rebounds.
 
Eastern hit on 49 percent of its shots for the game but lost the rebounding battle 47-32.  APSU turned 24 offensive rebounds into 22 second chance points.
 
The Colonels return to the friendly confines of McBrayer Arena on Thursday to host Tennessee State.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
