Each Tuesday over the next 10 weeks EKUSports will highlight a different athletics facility.
EKU Athletics Facilities
Â
This week, the tour begins with the EKU Soccer Field.
Â
"We are fortunate to have a soccer-dedicated facility right on campus," head coach
Matt Cosinuke said. Â "Our playing surface is beautiful, and our facilities crew does a great job of maintaining it year round."
Â

Located on the Eastern By-Pass next to Baptist Health Richmond, the EKU Soccer Complex is the home of a 115 by 75-yard field with an in-ground irrigation system. The field has a double herring bone drainage design and consist of native soils.  The grass is Riviera Bermuda Grass that has recently been overseeded with 365ss Bluegrass and HGT Bluegrass.
Â
"The reason for overseeding with Bluegrass is to convert the field to a hybrid grass system called Bluemuda," EKU Sports Turf Manager Kory Smoot said. Â "This conversion will allow the field to handle more traffic and it will remain green all year long."
Â
The field is equipped with World Cup draw-back goals, a scoreboard, 25-foot high nets behind the goals, a video tower, a press box and covered player benches to add comfort for the home and visiting teams.
Â
"The thing I like about our soccer field the most is it usually handles the traffic of practices and games pretty well," said Smoot.
In addition, 15 feet off the opposite sideline is the players' locker room which has showers, laundry facilities and a players' lounge. Â The players' lounge features a 42 inch flat screen TV with Dish Network and Fox Soccer Channel, and an ice tank.
