RICHMOND, Ky. – Following seven consecutive wins, the Eastern Kentucky University men's basketball team has ascended four spots to No. 14 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Top-25®.
EKU (12-2, 6-1 OVC) is off to its best start since 1946-47 following a 93-85 overtime win at Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
Junior
Tre King poured in a game-high 24 points in the win at EIU. He added six rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists. Redshirt freshman
Curt Lewis contributed 18 points and six boards at Eastern Illinois. Freshman
Wendell Green Jr. had 17 points and six assists.
EKU leads the OVC in scoring (82.1 points-per-game) and three-pointers-per-game (8.9).
The Colonels lead the NCAA in steals-per-game (12.1) and rank second in turnover margin (+7.7) and turnovers forced-per-game (21.2).
EKU is one of only two OVC schools featured in the Top-25. Belmont (14-1, 8-0 OVC) is currently ranked No. 5.
The Colonels are now positioned ahead of the likes of Bowling Green (No. 15), St. Mary's (No. 16), Southern Utah (No. 17), and Wright State (No. 18).
Unbeaten Gonzaga sits atop the rankings.
The Colonels host UT Martin (Jan. 21) and Southeast Missouri (Jan. 23) at McBrayer Arena this week.
