RICHMOND, Ky. – Sarah Mitchell recorded 11 kills but the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team lost to Jacksonville State, 3-0, on Friday at McBrayer Arena.

The Gamecocks (13-4, 3-1 ASUN) won by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-20.

Mitchell added eight digs and two blocks to go along with her 11 kills.

Trailing 1-0, EKU closed within one, 19-18, in the second set on a kill by Mitchell and a JSU attack error. However, Jacksonville State scored the next five points to get within set-point, 24-18. The visitors took the second set moments later on a kill by Addie Halverson.

An ace from
Josie Schmitendorf early in the third set gave the Colonels (4-13, 1-3 ASUN) a 9-5 lead. The Gamecocks slowly closed the gap, tying it at 11-11 and 12-12 before taking a 13-12 lead on a kill by Lena Kindermann. EKU kept the match tied, 16-16, on a kill from
Molly Michalak but JSU answered with a 6-1 run to open up a five-point advantage.Â

Eastern Kentucky put together one more run, getting within two, 22-20, on a kill from
Anna Purichia. However, Jacksonville State scored the final three points to take the set and the match.

Kindermann led all players with 17 kills. She made three errors in 26 attacks for a .538 hitting percentage.

The Colonels play North Alabama for a Homecoming match on Saturday at 1 p.m.
