Colonels Host Northern Kentucky Saturday At McBrayer Arena

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Regional rivals Eastern Kentucky and Northern Kentucky will meet again when the Colonel men's basketball team host the Norse on Saturday at McBrayer Arena.
 
Saturday is Ugly Sweater Night.  Fans are encouraged to wear your best ugly sweater.  FREE ugly sweater t-shirts will be given away while supplies last.
 
The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will air live on ESPN+.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.
 
EKU is partnering with Toys for Tots and will be accepting new toys for donation to children in need at all home games through Dec. 18.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  EKU leads the all-time series 6-4.  The teams first met on Nov. 26, 1977.  Three of the 10 meetings have been since 2017.  NKU has won two of those three including a 76-57 win in the most recent matchup, on Dec. 8, 2019 in Highland Heights. 
 
-  Ty Taylor led Eastern Kentucky with 14 points.  Trevon Faulkner had 18 points for Northern Kentucky.
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern Kentucky is 6-6 this season after beating Midway, 121-67, on Wednesday.
 
-  EKU hit 25 three-pointers against Midway, breaking the previous program record of 20 set in 2014 and again in 2021.
 
-  The Colonels have hit 13 or more 3-pointers in eight of their 12 games this season.  Through Dec. 16, EKU is first in the ASUN, and first in the nation, in 3-pointers per game (13.25).
 
-  Eastern Kentucky is 11th in the country in steals (10.5/game) and 11th in turnover margin (+5.9).
 
Russhard Cruickshank scored a career-best 17 points and dished out a career-best seven assists against Midway.
 
Devontae Blanton leads the ASUN Conference in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.82.  He has 48 assists and 17 turnovers this season.  He is sixth in the ASUN with 4.00 assists per game.  Blanton has dished out 10 assists combined in the last two games.
 
-  EKU and NKU are similar in that both teams are among the top-20 in the nation in 3-point field goals per game and both are among the top-25 squads in steals per game.  Eastern Kentucky and Northern Kentucky are also among the top-100 in the country in 3-point field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage defense.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Northern Kentucky is 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the Horizon League this season.  The Norse are riding a two-game winning streak, having knocked off Canisius 75-62, and Alice Lloyd 91-55.   
 
-  As a team, NKU is averaging 71.2 points per game and allowing 67 per contest.
 
-  The Norse have made 41 percent of their shots from the field and 36 from 3-point range.
 
-  NKU is averaging 10 steals per game and out-rebounding its opponents by 1.2 boards per game.
 
-  Trevon Faulkner, a 6-foot-4 senior guard from Harrodsburg, Kentucky, is the team's leading scorer at 12.3 points per game.  He also leads the team with 21 three-pointers.
 
-  Adrian Nelson, a 6-foot-8 senior forward, pulls down a team-best 8.7 rebounds per game while shooting 64 percent from the field and averaging 7.6 points per game.
