RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University's beach volleyball team fell in a pair of duels on Saturday in Richmond.
 
The Colonels lost the opening match to UT Martin, 5-0, before falling to Jacksonville State, 3-2, in the night cap.
 
In match two, the number four pairing of Josie Schmitendorf and Mikayla Logan got the Colonels on the board. The duo battled back and forth and took the opening set, 23-21, to take the early lead. Jacksonville State answered back to take the second set, 21-11, to tie the match at 1-1. The duo of Logan and Schmitendorf answered back and took the final set, 15-9, to put Eastern on the board.
 
The number one pairing of Rachel Woody and Sarah Mitchell opened the first set in a big way, taking the opening set, 21-15, over the number one pairing of Jacksonville State. The JSU duo responded by taking the second set, 21-15, and tying the match at 1-1. Woody and Mitchell fought off a fierce JSU rally in set three to take the final set 15-13.
 
In match one, the number four pairing of Logan and Schmitendorf battled but fell in the opening set 21-17. The duo couldn't answer back and fell in the final set 21-18.
 
The Colonels wrap up the tournament tomorrow with a pair of duels. EKU will take on Chattanooga at 10 a.m. before wrapping up the day with a duel against Austin Peay at 6 p.m.
