RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team defeated Tennessee Tech in a doubleheader on Sunday behind
Zoe Mihalicz's career day at the plate.
The Colonels took game one of the doubleheader, 3-1, before knocking off the Golden Eagles 4-3 in game two.

Eastern Kentucky (29-11, 20-5 OVC) wasted no time in game one getting on the board.

Sammi Miller got things started reaching via a Golden Eagle error in the top of the first. Mihalicz followed with her first home run of the day to give Eastern the early 2-0 lead.

Mihalicz again delivered hitting her second home run of the day and the game to extend the Colonel lead to 3-0.

Tennessee Tech (18-23, 12-14 OVC) got a run back in the top of the fourth with three straight two out singles to cut the Eastern lead to 3-1

Tori Peterson (14-3) started in the circle tossing six and one-third innings allowing one run and striking out one.
Â
Mihalicz went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs on the contest.

In game two, the Colonels used a two RBI single to left field by
Carly Robinson to take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth for good.

The Colonels struck first in the bottom of the third.

Mihalicz hit her third home run of the day to take a 2-0 lead over Tennessee Tech.
Â
Tennessee Tech responded with three runs in the top of the fifth.

The Golden Eagles used four hits including a pair of doubles and three EKU errors to push three across and take the 3-2 lead over the Colonels.

Mollie Paulick (9-0) picked up the win in the circle tossing the final two and two-third innings allowing zero runs and striking out three.
Samantha Reynoso started in the circle tossing four and one-third innings allowing three runs, with three strikeouts.

Michalicz went 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBIs. Robinson went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and one walk.

Eastern and Tennessee Tech wrap up the three-game series tomorrow at Gertrude Hood Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
