Four EKU Football Players Earn All-Commonwealth Honors

RICHMOND, Ky. – Four Eastern Kentucky football players were chosen to the Community Trust Bank 2021 Kentucky Collegiate All-Commonwealth Team presented by the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame.  Those four are Quinten Floyd, Matthew Jackson, Tucker Schroeder and Matt Wilcox Jr..
 
The Kentucky Collegiate All-Commonwealth Team is a pre-season recognition award for football players attending a Kentucky college or university.  The All-Commonwealth Team designation/award honors select players whose dedication to the game has contributed significantly to their teams, and who lead their teammates in the classroom and on the field.  These nominated players represent some of the most outstanding athletes in the Commonwealth.
 
The All-Commonwealth Team will be recognized during the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on June 25.  The ceremony will air live on WTVQ Channel 36 at 8 p.m. 
 
Floyd is a redshirt junior defensive lineman from Frankfort, Kentucky.  He played in seven games and started six times at defensive tackle last season.  Floyd concluded the 2020 campaign with 20 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for a loss, one pass deflection and recovered one fumble.  He finished with a season-high five tackles at The Citadel and at No. 11 Central Arkansas.
 
Jackson, a redshirt junior linebacker from Nashville, Tennessee, led the team with 79 tackles, including 8.0 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks.  He had two fumble recoveries and two pass deflections.  Jackson led the nation in the fall in fumbles recovered, ranked ninth in tackles per game (9.9) and was 15th in tackles for a loss per game (1.0).  He posted a season-best 15 tackles and had two pass break-ups against Houston Baptist.
 
Schroeder is a redshirt junior offensive lineman from St. Cloud, Florida.  He was a preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference pick by coaches and communications directors, HERO Sports and Phil Steele.  Schroeder started the first five games before suffering a season-ending injury.  He helped EKU conclude the fall third in the nation in passing offense (247.4 yards per game) and fourth in the country in total offense (376.4 yards per game).  Schroeder started on the offensive line when the Colonels ran up 480 yards of offense against Houston Baptist and 425 yards of offense in a near upset of Troy.
 
Wilcox, a Dayton, Ohio native, appeared in eight games and started six times in 2020.  The receiver concluded the season with 26 receptions for 229 yards and three touchdowns.  He averaged 3.2 receptions per game and 8.8 yards per reception.  After the fall season, Wilcox ranked 10th in the nation in receiving touchdowns, 15th in receiving yards and 15th in receptions per game.  He had eight catches for 81 yards and a touchdown in a win over No. 11 Central Arkansas, including the game-winning touchdown reception with six seconds left to play.
 
The 2021 EKU football season begins at Western Carolina on Sept. 4.
