EKU Volleyball Plays First ASUN Matches This Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
The EKU volleyball team will play its first-ever ASUN Conference matches this weekend in Nashville.
 
The Colonels will face Jacksonville on Friday at 4 p.m., Liberty on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday at 1 p.m.  All three matches are being hosted by ASUN member Lipscomb and will be streamed live on YouTube.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  EKU is 3-0 all-time against Jacksonville, but the two teams haven't met since 2003. 
 
-  The Colonels and Liberty will be meeting for the first time. 
 
-  Florida Gulf Coast is 1-0 against Eastern Kentucky, with the lone meeting coming in 2018. 
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern Kentucky (3-10) won one of three matches last weekend at the Southern Miss Classic II.  After falling to host Southern Miss, 3-0, the Colonels beat Chattanooga, 3-2, before dropping a five-setter to Lamar.
 
-  EKU leads the ASUN in kills (653), assists (614), digs (763) and points (784).  The Colonels are third in the conference in blocks (80).
 
-  Molly Michalak leads the ASUN with 173 kills and Sydney Schoen leads the conference with 224 digs.
 
-  Schoen was chosen to the Southern Miss Classic II All-Tournament Team after averaging 4.69 digs per set and serving up five aces over three matches.
 
-  Mikayla Logan leads the team in blocks with 32.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

-  Jacksonville is 3-9 overall this season.  The Dolphins beat UNC Wilmington, 3-1, last weekend at the Seahawk Invitational before falling to UNC Greensboro, 3-0, and Campbell, 3-0.  Cami Kelsay leads the team with 3.58 kills per set.  
 
-  Liberty is off to a 4-3 start to the season.  The Flames had three matches cancelled last weekend.  They last competed in their own Liberty Invitational on Sept. 10-11, winning one of four.  Amelia Johnson leads the squad with 4.33 kills per set.  
 
-  Florida Gulf Coast is 8-4 this year.  The Eagles lost to Central Florida (3-0) and Miami (3-0) before beating Florida Atlantic (3-0) at the Sunshine State Challenge last weekend.  Erin Shomaker leads FGCU with 3.78 kills per set.
