KENNESAW, Ga. – Molly Michalak had eight kills and hit .304 for the match, but EKU fell 3-0 at first place Kennesaw State on Saturday.
The Owls won by scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-20.
Michalak made just one error in 23 attempts, had six digs, three blocks and one ace.
Sarah Mitchell contributed a team-best nine kills.
Chloe Mason had 15 assists and seven digs.
Dani Ballou led all players with 15 kills for Kennesaw State (14-4, 7-1 ASUN). She had three errors in 33 attempts for a .364 attack percentage.
In the first set, a KSU attack error allowed EKU (12-10, 3-5 ASUN) to tie the score at 17-17.
AG Vandagriff followed with a kill and another Owl error put the Colonels ahead 19-17. Kennesaw State scored three straight out of a timeout to retake a one-point edge, 20-19. Eastern Kentucky tied it at 20-20 on a kill from Michalak, but the Owls scored five of the final six points to take the set.
EKU went in front 6-4 in the third set on an ace from
Josie Schmitendorf and a KSU attack error. Mitchell's kill made it 8-7 in favor of the visitors. A kill from
Maddy Campbell and an Owl attack error put the Colonels on top 14-13. Kennesaw State rolled off three straight to take the lead and never trailed again.
Eastern Kentucky will host Bellarmine on Friday at 6 p.m. for its "Dig Pink Game." The Colonels will then make the trip to Louisville to play at Bellarmine on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
