Colonels Pick Up ASUN Win Against Queens

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky earned a 3-0 win over visiting Queens in an ASUN Conference match on Friday at McBrayer Arena.
 
The Colonels won by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-19.  EKU improves to 11-8 on the season and 2-3 in conference matches.
 
The Colonels will play Liberty on Saturday at 2 p.m.  Saturday will be Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day.  EKU faculty and staff will receive two free tickets to the match.  Click here to reserve free Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day tickets.
 
Molly Michalak led Eastern Kentucky with 10 kills to go along with 10 digs and three blocks.  Sarah Mitchell added nine kills and a team-best 14 digs.  Middle blockers Carson Ledford and Maddy Campbell combined for 11 kills and no errors.  Ledford, a freshman, finished with six kills, a .600 attack percentage and three blocks.  Miya Carmichael served up three aces and had 11 assists.  Chloe Mason led the squad with 17 assists.
 
As a team, EKU totaled 45 kills and just 15 errors.  The Colonels out-blocked the Royals 8-2.
 
Eastern Kentucky jumped out to a 7-2 lead on a kill from Katie McKune in the first set.  The Colonels led 13-6 and 17-7 after attack errors from Queens.  Michalak's kill ended the first set by a margin of 11.
 
After EKU took an 18-10 lead in the second set, Queens rallied with an 8-1 run to close the gap to 19-18.  The Colonels righted the ship and went back in front by three, 22-19, on a kill from Campbell.  Mitchell's kill gave Eastern Kentucky set-point at 24-20 before another error from the Royals ended the set.
 
The Colonels scored 11 of the first 14 in the third set and went in front by 10, 18-8, on a kill from Michalak.  AG Vandagriff's kill ended the set and the match.
 
Alleigh Johnson had a match-high 11 kills for Queens (5-13, 0-5 ASUN).
