LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky cross country teams competed in the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, where the men finished in sixth place with 143 points while the women had 336 points leading to a 12^th place finish.
 
The EKU men were led by senior Hakim Abouzouhir in the 10K race finishing in 13^th place out of 222 runners with a time of 30:05.20. Abouzouhir earned All-Southeast Region honors for his performance. Senior Nikodem Dworczak posted a 10K time of 30:18.70 finishing in 27^th place while graduate student Ahmed Jaziri claimed 30^th place with a time of 30:23.50. Senior Enock Kipchumba clocked a 10K time of 30:25.00 finishing in 32^nd place while senior Keeton Thornsberry finished in 42^nd place with a time of 30:43.90. Graduate student Joan Tapias (31:02.20) and senior Jackson Siddall (31:11.10) finished in 58^th place and 68^th place, respectively.
 
Graduate student Jone Zabaleta Larranaga led the Colonels with a 6K time of 21:00.50 finishing in 34^th place out of 232 competitors. Senior Grace Kilroy ran a 6K time of 21:36.70 for 61^st place while senior Christina DiFalco claimed 64^th place with a time of 21:40.20. Senior Anouk van Gils (80^th / 21:55.20) and graduate student Saskia Pingpank (106^th / 22:23.50) rounded out the scoring for the Maroon and White. Senior Katy Chapman clocked a 6K time of 22:58.60 finishing in 141^st place, respectively.
 
North Carolina won the event for the men with 62 points while the NC State women won with 25 points. Charlotte's Nickolas Scudder won the men's 10K race (29:42.80) while NC State's Katelyn Tuohy won the women's 6K race (19:49.10).
 
The men had the best finish out of any non-Power 5 school in the region. They beat Charlotte, who is ranked ahead of EKU in the latest regional rankings. The men also beat Virginia Tech, in-state foe Kentucky, and conference rival Liberty.
 
The women beat regional foes ranked ahead of the Colonels including Charlotte, William & Mary, and George Mason.
