LEESBURG, Fla. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team lost to a pair of power five schools on the second day of the Northern Lights/Southern Nights Invitational on Saturday in Leesburg, Florida.

Eastern Kentucky (0-4) lost game one to Pitt, 7-1, before falling to Penn State 4-0.

In game one, Pitt raced out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back against the Colonels.
Â
EKU chipped into the lead in the top of the fifth, when
Maggie Pertee scored after a passed ball from Pitt to cut the lead to 5-1.

The Panthers answered back with a two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning to extends its lead to six.

Lauren Narvaez pitched two shutout innings in relief for the Colonels.
Â
Samantha Reynoso started for the Colonels, allowing four earned runs against the Panthers.
Â
Reynoso had the lone hit for the Colonels.

In game two, EKU went toe-to-toe with Penn State out of the Big Ten.

Penn State got on board in the second inning. Lexie Black tripled off the left center field fence to get things started with one out. Lianna Jones brought home Black with a sacrifice fly to take the early 1-0 lead. Â Â

The Nittany Lions pushed three unearned runs across in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 4-0.

EKU had chances to cut into the Penn State lead but some good defensive plays by the Nittany Lions ended the Colonels threat.

The Colonels left seven on base.
Â
Miranda Lopez went 2-for-3 on the contest.
Sammi Miller, Reynoso, and
Jeanay Riley each had a hit on the game.

Bethany Todd tossed a complete game allowing one earned run and striking out four.

Eastern Kentucky wraps up the Northern Lights/Southern Nights Invitational on Sunday morning against No. 23 Northwestern. Â
