TROY, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team fell in a pair of contests on day one of the Troy Invitational.

Eastern Kentucky (0-7) lost game one to Ole Miss, 2-1, before falling to the host Troy, 9-0, in game two.

In game one, the Colonels got on the board first against the Rebels.
Â
Jeanay Riley got things started in the top of the fourth inning with a double into left field.
Ariyana Miranda doubled into center field to score Riley and give the Colonels the 1-0 lead over Ole Miss.

The Rebels got one back in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Aynslie Furbush singled to left center with one out. After Nyomi Jones came into run and stole second, Jones advanced to third on a groundout. KK Esparaza brought home Jones with a single to center field to tie the game at 1-1.

Ole Miss finally got the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tate Whitley reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error by the third baseman. After a groundout moved Whitley to third base, Paige Smith brought home the winning run with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Sammi Miller went 2-for-2 with a triple and a walk on the contest. Riley and Miranda each had a double. Miranda had the lone RBI on the contest.

Samantha Reynoso went the distance in the circle tossing six innings, allowing four hits, no earned runs and striking out two against the team out of the SEC.

In game two, the Trojans scored two in the first and three in the second and never looked back against the Colonels.

Eastern Kentucky returns to the diamond tomorrow morning for day two of the Troy Invitational. The Colonels take on Nicholls at 11 a.m.
