RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky overcame an early 2-0 deficit to beat Ohio, 4-3, in the opening game of the series on Friday at Earle Combs Stadium.
The comeback started in the bottom half of the first when
Will King was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 2-1. In the bottom of the third,
Santiago Peralta drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game.
Sebastian Greico broke the tie one inning later. With two outs, Greico took the first pitch he saw and deposited it over the wall in right center. Back-to-back singles by
Will King and
Jalen Jones kept the inning alive for
Roderick Criss II. Criss drove the ball into left to plate King and put the Colonels (2-3) ahead 4-2.
The Bobcats (1-3) closed to within one on a sacrifice fly by Isaiah Peterson in the top of the sixth.
With the tying run on base and one out in the top of the eighth, closer
Will Brian came in for the 5-out save. He struck out the first batter he faced and then Peralta made a nice catch on a pop up on the left side. Brian retired the side in order in the ninth for his first save of the season.
Greico finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Criss went 2-for-4 with a run. Jones also had two hits.
Colin Kasperbauer had two hits in two at bats for Ohio.
