RICHMOND, Ky.– Eastern Kentucky University's beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the EKU Beach Tournament on Friday.

The Colonels lost the first match to Austin Peay, 4-1, before winning the second match against Eastern Illinois, 4-1.

In match two, the Colonels cruised past the Panthers of Eastern Illinois.

The number one, two, four, and five pairings all won in straight sets.

The fives of
Bailey Rima and
Kali Walker cruised in the opening set over Eastern Illinois winning, 21-9. The duo again dominated the second set rolling to a 21-13 victory to win the point for the Colonels.

The fours of
Elizabeth Fonvielle and
Maddy Campbell held off the Eastern Illinois duo winning the opening set, 21-19. The duo dominated from start to finish in the second set winning 21-6 over the Panthers.

In match one, the Colonels took the early lead winning the number four pairing.

Elizabeth Fonvielle and
Maddy Campbell won in straight sets winning the first set over the Govs 21-11, before taking the second set 21-14 to win the point for the Colonels.

The number three pairing of
Sydney Schoen and
Kaylin Johnson took the opening set against Austin Peay, 21-11, to take the early lead. APSU came back to take the final two sets of the match to win the point for Austin Peay.

Day two of the EKU Beach Volleyball Tournament is Saturday in Richmond. The event starts at 9 a.m. but the Colonels will take the sand for their first match of the day at 1 p.m.
