EKU Beats Jax State Again, Secures Series Victory And Sole Possession Of First Place

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. –
Kendal Ewell drove in four runs and Jalen Jones had four hits as the Colonels beat Jacksonville State, 13-1, on Saturday night, taking sole possession of first place in the ASUN Conference West Division.
 
The win was the second straight over the Gamecocks, who entered the weekend 6-0 in league play.  It is EKU's seventh straight victory and guarantees the Colonels' sixth straight series victory.
 
Eastern Kentucky built a 3-0 lead in the first two innings, capped by a run scoring single by Ewell.
 
Alex Carignan put Jacksonville State (12-13, 6-2 ASUN) on the board in the bottom of the third with a solo home run to left center. 
 
Jalen Jones started the fourth with a single for the Colonels (20-8, 7-1 ASUN) and Max Williams was hit by a pitch.  With a 2-0 count, Ewell sent a shot over the wall in left field to turn a 3-1 lead into a 6-1 advantage.
 
Ewell finished 3-for-4 with two walks, three runs and four RBIs.
 
Roderick Criss II, who had three hits and two walks on the night, drove in a run in the sixth with a single to right center and one in the ninth on another single to right center.  EKU pushed across six runs in the ninth to double its lead.
 
Six Colonels had two or more hits and seven drove in at least one run.
 
Jones scored twice and drove in one during a 4-for-6 night.  Will King was 2-for-4 with two walks a run and an RBI.  Charlie Ludwick had two hits in three at bats, walked three times and drove in two.  Ron Franklin Jr. was 2-for-6 with a run and an RBI.
 
Rese Brown (4-2) started and allowed one run on five hits over eight innings.  He walked two and struck out six.
 
Carignan went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Gamecocks.
 
The Colonels drew 12 walks in the game while issuing only two.
 
The series finale is set for Sunday at 2 p.m.
