RICHMOND, Ky.– Eastern Kentucky University's beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the EKU Beach Tournament on Saturday.

The Colonels knocked off Jacksonville State, 3-2, in a thriller in the first match of the day before falling to North Alabama, 4-1, in the weekend finale.

In match one, EKU got on the board first with the number four pairing of
Maddy Campbell and
Elizabeth Fonvielle winning in straight sets, 21-14. The Gamecocks answered back in the number five pairings winning a close three-set match to even the score at, 1-1.

Jacksonville State took the lead, 2-1, after its three's swept the Colonels in straight sets. The number one pairing of
Shannon Stone and
Hannah Keating evened the match again, this time 2-2, after sweeping the JSU ones.

Sarah Mitchell and
Paityn Walker secured the match for the Colonels winning a three-set thriller. The duo fell behind early losing the opening set, 21-14. The pairing answered back in the second winning the second set, 21-15, to even it at one set a piece. Mitchell and Walker won the third and final set, 21-15, to win the points for the Colonels and the match.

In match two, Mitchell and Walker scored the only point for the Colonels in the match.

The duo won an exciting first set over North Alabama, 23-21, to take the early lead. UNA answered back taking the second set, 21-17, to even the match. But, the duo of Walker and Mitchell won the third set, 15-13, to win the point for the Colonels.

The ones and threes each lost close tough three-set matches.

The Colonels have won five of their last seven matches.

EKU is off a week before traveling to Austin Peay for the Austin Peay Beach Bash.
