RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University beach volleyball team hits the road to Huntsville, Alabama for the team's first ever ASUN Championship this weekend.  
 
The event consists of two pools each featuring six teams. The Colonels will play five matches in the pool play portion, playing each team in their pool one time. With the top two teams out of each pool advancing to the final four, single elimination part of the bracket.
 
Eastern Kentucky opens the event on Friday against the No. 5 seed College of Charleston at 11 a.m. The Colonels then take on No. 1 seed and nationally ranked Stetson at 2 p.m. EKU takes on No.8 seed Mercer University to start the event on Saturday. First serve against the Bears is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Eastern Kentucky ends Saturday with a showdown against No. 4 UNC Wilmington who they played twice during the regular season. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
 
EKU wraps up the pull play portion of the tournament on Sunday morning against the No. 9 seed Stephen F. Austin at 9:30 a.m.
 
Paityn Walker and Sarah Mitchell come into the weekend with a 12-8 record on the year. The 12 wins is a team-high on the year. Eleven of the 12 wins have been out of the two pairing.
 
The Colonels have the most wins in a single season in program history.
