LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team earned two academic awards from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The Colonels picked up the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2021-22 season and earned AVCA Honor Roll distinction as a result of having a team grade-point-average in the top 20 percent, the organization announced today.
Â
To earn the Team Academic Award, which began during the 1992-93 season, teams must display excellence in the classroom by maintaining a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale. EKU was one of only 43 NCAA Division I programs to earn the Honor Roll distinction.
Â
During the 2021-22 academic year, the Colonels had a cumulative 3.77 GPA. Â This past spring, the team compiled a 3.73 GPA and five student-athletes had perfect 4.0 GPAs.
Â
"I am super proud of this group of young ladies and this team's academic success," head coach
Johnna Bazzani said. Â "They still continue to impress me with how they excel in the classroom and on the court."
