RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU ended the 2022 Colonel Classic with a 3-1 loss to Tennessee-Martin on Saturday at McBrayer Arena.

The Colonel Classic All-Tournament Team included Radford's Sophie Paspal, Addie Evans from IUPUI, Eastern Kentucky's
Maddy Campbell and
Chloe Mason, and UTM's Karen Scanlon, Dylan Mott and Haeleigh Paulino. Scanlon was chosen as the Colonel Classic MVP.

EKU jumped out to a 1-0 lead. With the first set tied 18-18, the Colonels scored four of the next five to go in front by three, 22-19. A kill by
Carson Ledford and a UTM error ended the set 25-22.

Eastern Kentucky started fast in the second set and looked to be on its way to a 2-0 lead, going in front by seven at 12-5 and 14-7. However, the Skyhawks answered with a 12-0 run to turn a seven-point deficit into a five-point lead, 19-14. UTM finished off the second set 25-18.Â

The third set was tied late, 22-22, before two kills by Logan Wallick accounted for two of the final three points to give UT Martin a 25-23 win and a 2-1 lead. Haeleigh Paulino's kill in the fourth set put the visitors ahead 5-4 and the Skyhawks never trailed again, winning the final set 25-14.

Ledford and
Sarah Mitchell each had nine kills for the Colonels (2-1). Mason added 23 assists.Â

Kambree Lucas led all players with 16 kills, to go along with seven block assists, for UTM (2-1). The Skyhawks committed seven fewer attack errors and out-blocked Eastern Kentucky 16-4.

The Colonels take to the road for the first time this season next weekend for the Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina. EKU faces Wofford on Friday at 1 p.m. and South Carolina-Upstate on Friday at 4 p.m. Eastern Kentucky wraps up play in the event on Saturday against Appalachian State at 11 a.m.
