RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU hosts its first home game of the 2022 football season as the Colonels host the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern at 6:00 p.m. Saturday night at CG Bank Field at Roy Kidd Stadium.
The weekend is highlighted by a day of full activities prior and during the football game.
The game day experience begins Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. when all parking and tailgate lots open for the general public. The Colonel Courtyard will return this season as a highlighted piece of the tailgate atmosphere. The area will once again be a featured location in the tailgate lot in between the Alumni Coliseum lot and Roy Kidd Stadium. This space opens at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and will feature DJ Tino Dollars, band and spirit squad performances nearby, a meet and greet with the EKU Softball team, food trucks, face painting, inflatables, and more.
This weekend, EKU Athletics will participate in the Extra Yard for Teachers campaign put on through the College Football Playoff Foundation. CFP's Extra Yard for Teachers campaign elevates the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering teachers through the implementation of programs in four focus areas: resources, recognition, recruitment and professional development. EKU will present a local teacher with a $1,000 gift during the game Saturday. The Colonels will also wear special Extra Yard for Teachers helmet stickers.
In addition to the Extra Yard for Teachers initiative, EKU will also host its Education and Youth Sports Night. EKU will honor and show its appreciation to educators and education locally and across the bluegrass state. All educators can use this link to redeem two free tickets with additional tickets available at a discounted rate. Additionally, EKU will welcome youth with its annual Youth Sports Night. All kids will gather right before halftime at the hill with an opportunity to run out of the team entrance just like the EKU Football team does.
Tomorrow's game will feature the College of Education and Applied Human Sciences as the Colleges of the Game. They will be featured in the Colonel Courtyard and tailgate space surrounding, as well as in-game announcements.
While you are inside Roy Kidd Stadium, don't forget to enjoy the variety of concessions offered by EKU Dining Services and Aramark. This weekend's feature item of the game is the EKU Dawg. This hot dog is served with chow chow, pickles, banana peppers, and tomatoes. This item can be purchased at the grill location just outside the main concourse. New and noteworthy items at every game this year consists of the Tailgate Burger and bringing back the popular ribeye sandwich, along with all other concession items.
EKU Athletics will also continue to host a family zone located above the hill behind the cannon with inflatables for kids inside the stadium, while providing access to view the game for families.
Please note that the stadium light show will be played after EKU scores, between quarters, and other crucial moments during the game. A graphic will be shown on the video board before the light show begins and light show announcements will be read over the public address system throughout the game.
