SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Eastern Kentucky completed an undefeated run at the Wofford Invitational with a 3-0 win over Appalachian State on Saturday.
 
EKU beat host Wofford, 3-1, and then came from behind to beat South Carolina Upstate, 3-2, on Friday.
 
At 5-1, Eastern Kentucky is off to its best start since the 2014 season (6-1).  The Colonels will host old rival Middle Tennessee on Wednesday at McBrayer Arena.  The match will begin at 6 p.m.
 
Freshman 
AG Vandagriff and junior 
Molly Michalak earned a spot on the Wofford Invitational All-Tournament Team.  Michalak was chosen as the MVP.  In three matches Vandagriff averaged 2.08 kills and hit .458.  Michalak contributed 3.83 kills and 4.42 digs per set.
 
With the first set against Appalachian State (3-3) tied 22-22, Eastern Kentucky scored two of the next three to reach set-point.  The Mountaineers tied it again at 24-24 before a kill by 
Maddy Campbell and an ASU error ended it in favor of the Colonels, 26-24.
 
Appalachian State jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the second set before EKU went on a 6-1 run to tie it 11-11.  Eastern Kentucky took its first lead in the set, 17-16, on a kill by Campbell.  The Colonels broke a 17-17 tie with a 5-0 run to take control.  Michalak's kill ended the set at 25-22.
 
A kill from Vandagriff in the third set broke a 9-9 tie and the Colonels led the rest of the way.  
Sarah Mitchell's kill made it 20-15.  Another kill by Mitchell ended the set and the match, 25-21.
 
Michalak had 12 kills, hit .345 and finished with a match-best 20 digs.  Mitchell had 11 kills and 10 digs.  Vandagriff posted seven kills and a .429 attack percentage.  
Miya Carmichael and 
Chloe Mason finished with 18 assists each.
 
EKU hit .244 while limiting the Mountaineers to a .138 attack percentage.  The Colonels had only 10 attack errors and out-blocked Appalachian State 9-2.
