RICHMOND, Ky. – The volleyball team will host the Geri Polvino Invitational, presented by the Dr. Geri Polvino, Russell, Josephine, and Mary Polvino Family Legacy Endowment, on Friday and Saturday at McBrayer Arena.
 
The GPI begins with Eastern Illinois facing Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday at 10 a.m.  EKU will take on Saint Francis at 12:30 p.m.  Saint Francis and Eastern Illinois will play at 3 p.m.  The day-long extravaganza will conclude with the Colonels playing Purdue Fort Wayne at 6 p.m.
 
Saturday's schedule features Purdue Fort Wayne and Saint Francis at 11 a.m., and Eastern Kentucky against Eastern Illinois at 1:30 p.m.
 
All three EKU matches will air live on ESPN+.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  EKU is 4-0 all-time against Saint Francis.  The teams last played in 2019 with the Colonels winning 3-0 in Akron, Ohio. 
 
-  Eastern Kentucky and Purdue Fort Wayne have split their only two meetings.  The last match came in 2014, a 3-0 EKU win in Dayton, Ohio. 
 
-  Eastern Illinois and the Colonels have met 45 times with the Panthers holding a 24-21 edge.  EKU won the most recent meeting, 3-0, in Richmond during the 2019 season. 
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern Kentucky fell to 5-2 on the season after a 3-1 setback to Middle Tennessee on Wednesday.
 
-  Newcomer Chloe Mason has a team-best 12 aces this season.  She is seven aces away from reaching 100 for her career.
 
-  Freshman Carson Ledford leads the team with 21 blocks, an average of 0.81 per set.
 
-  Molly Michalak was chosen as the ASUN Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.  She was the Wofford Invitational MVP after averaging 3.83 kills and 4.42 digs per set in three matches last weekend.  She recorded a double-double in each match.
 
-  AG Vandagriff was picked as the ASUN Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.  She was on the Wofford Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging 2.08 kills per set while posting a .458 attack percentage.  She posted a season-high 14 kills in a win over USC Upstate.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Saint Francis is 1-6 this season, picking up its first victory on Tuesday with a 3-2 home court win over Duquesne.  The Red Flash lost 3-2 to previous EKU opponent IUPUI and 3-1 to future foe Bellarmine.  Madi Tyus leads the team with 3.07 kills per set.  
 
-  Purdue Fort Wayne is 3-3 this season.  The Mastodons have victories over Lindenwood (3-0), Western Illinois (3-1) and Eastern Michigan (3-0).  PFW lost to Canisius (3-2), Virginia (3-0) and Xavier (3-0).  Sidney Schiller is averaging a team-best 3.52 kills per set.  
 
-  Eastern Illinois is off to a 2-5 start.  The Panthers picked up wins over Akron (3-0) and Oakland (3-2).  EIU lost to Butler (3-1), Illinois Chicago (3-0), Chicago State (3-2), Pacific (3-0) and Western Illinois (3-0).  Giovana Larregui Lopez is the team's top hitter at 3.5 kills per set.
