Colonels Take 4-Game Winning Streak, First Place Standing On The Road

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – EKU is riding a four-game winning streak and sits tied atop the ASUN Conference standings as the Colonels travel to Tennessee for two road games this week beginning at Lipscomb in Nashville on Thursday.
 
The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET and will air live on ESPN+.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  The all-time series is tied 1-1.  The first meeting between the two was on Jan. 18, 2022 when the Colonels beat the Bisons, 86-72, in Richmond.  In the rematch in Nashville on Feb. 12, Lipscomb won 83-73. 
 
Jomaru Brown scored 18 points in Eastern Kentucky's 83-73 loss at Lipscomb.  Curt Lewis finished with 15 points and a team-best nine rebounds.  Michael Moreno contributed 17 points.  Tommy Murr led Lipscomb with 16 points to go along with eight rebounds.  Ahsan Asadullah had five points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern Kentucky (12-7, 5-1 ASUN) is tied with Kennesaw State, Liberty and Stetson for first place in the ASUN.  EKU has won four straight and seven of its last eight games.  The Colonels swept a three-game home stand against Liberty, Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson last week, winning by an average of 18 points per game.
 
-  Moreno was chosen as the ASUN Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in two games.  He shot 50 percent from the field and 47 percent from behind the 3-point line.
 
Isaiah Cozart was chosen as the ASUN Newcomer of the Week on Monday after averaging 13 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks while shooting 69 percent from the field in two games.
 
-  In the last three games, the Colonels have handed out 65 assists on 90 made field goals. That's an assist on 72 percent of the team's baskets.
 
Tayshawn Comer dished out a season-best 11 assists against Stetson on Saturday.  In his last two games, Comer has 18 assists.
 
-  EKU is fifth in the country in rebounding (40.68/game) and eighth in offensive rebounds (13.84/game).
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Lipscomb is 11-8 overall and 3-3 in ASUN games.  The Bisons have non-conference wins over Belmont and Louisville, and a 1-point loss at Notre Dame.  Lipscomb has league victories over North Alabama and Austin Peay twice.  The Bisons ASUN losses were to Stetson (86-80), Liberty (77-48) and Jacksonville (51-44).   
 
-  Lipscomb scored 87 and 86 points in its two games against Austin Peay last week, beating the Governors by 22 in the first and 14 in the second meeting.
 
-  As a team, the Bisons are shooting 48 percent from the field this season, but just 33 percent from long range.
 
-  Jacob Ognacevic, a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward, leads the team with an average of 15.9 points per game and is shooting 60 percent from the field.  He has scored 70 points at the free throw line, only one player in the ASUN has made more free throws.  Ognacevic had 22 points, 10 of which came at the free throw line, in Saturday's home win over Austin Peay.
 
-  Asadullah, a 6-foot-10 senior center, is the top rebounder (6.6 rpg) and leads the team in assists (3.4 apg).
