Mitchell And Vandagriff Combine For 25 Kills in Loss At North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –
Sarah Mitchell had 14 kills and AG Vandagriff finished with 11 kills but Eastern Kentucky University lost 3-1 at North Florida on Friday.
 
Mitchell made just three errors in 39 attempts for a .282 attack percentage.  She also had three aces.  Vandagriff hit .389 with her 11 kills in just 18 attempts.
 
The first set was highlighted by a pair of 4-0 runs.  EKU (15-4, 5-2 ASUN) put together the first to tie the set at 8-8.  With the set tied 10-10, North Florida rolled off four unanswered to seize control.  An ace from Annie Antar made it 14-10.  Blocks from Mahalia White and Maddie Boyd finished off the opening frame 25-17 in favor of the home team.
 
After the Ospreys (11-10, 4-3 ASUN) closed to within two in the second set, 12-10, the Colonels answered with a 7-3 run to pull ahead by six late.  An ace from Sarah Mitchell and a UNF ball handling error capped the run.  North Florida would close the gap to two late, but a service error handed the set to EKU, 25-22, and tied the match.
 
The Colonels grabbed an early 4-1 lead in the third set and went in front 10-6 on a kill from Carson Ledford.  From that point, the Ospreys scored seven straight.  An EKU ball handling error made it 13-10 in favor of UNF.  The Colonels never rebounded.  Kailey McKnight's kill finished off the set 25-20 and put her team ahead 2-1.
 
EKU took a 3-2 lead another ace from Mitchell early in the fourth.  The visitors didn't trail again in the set until North Florida scored 10 straight to go from down 13-12 to a 22-13 lead.  Amy Burkhardt finished off the set with a kill, 25-17.
 
McKnight contributed 14 kills, two aces and two blocks for the Ospreys.  She made only two errors in 34 attempts and hit .353 for the match.
 
The Colonels will stay in Jacksonville to face Jacksonville University on Saturday at 5 p.m.
