RICHMOND, Ky. – Sarah Mitchell had 22 kills, and
Carson Ledford contributed 12 kills and five blocks as Eastern Kentucky University moved to 9-0 at home this season with a 3-1 win over Stetson on Friday.

EKU (16-5, 6-3 ASUN) served up 10 aces while the Hatters had only five. The Colonels registered 58 kills and hit .216 as a team. Stetson (10-11, 5-4 ASUN) had 50 kills and posted a .185 attack percentage. The visitors had an 14-11 edge in blocks.

The first set was tied 18-18 before three straight by the Colonels created a small cushion.Â
AG Vandagriff started the run with a kill. Stetson closed within one on two occasions. A Hatter attack error pushed the margin back to three for EKU, 24-21. Mitchell finished it off moments later with a kill for a 25-23 win.

Stetson had a 5-point lead late in the second set, 20-15. However, the Colonels didn't go away easy. EKU went on a 6-1 run to tie the set. Ledford's kill made it 21-21. A kill from Mitchell had the maroon and white within one late, 24-23, but an attack error on the next series gave the Hatters a 25-23 victory and tied the match 1-1.

An 11-2 Colonel run turned an 8-8 tie in the third set into a comfortable 19-10 advantage. Ledford's kill finished it at 25-15 and put her squad ahead 2-1.

The fourth set remained close throughout. Amaris Carter gave the Hatters a 20-18 lead with a kill. EKU answered with four straight to take a 22-20 lead, the final two points coming of a pair of attack errors. Sophia Groom tied it at 23-23 with a kill for Stetson. Mitchell finished off the set, and the match with back-to-back kills.
