RICHMOND, Ky. – The accolades continue to roll in for the Colonel football program as 10 student-athletes have been named to the FCS Football Central 2023 UAC All-Conference Team.
Five Colonels in
Hunter Brown,
Josiah Ezirim,
Payton Collins,
Braedon Sloan, and
Logan Blake were named as first team selections with Sloan Ezirm, and Blake adding the honors after being named to the publication's All-American team earlier in the month.
Brown's selection comes after being named First Team All-UAC unanimously by the league's coaches earlier this postseason after the transfer tight end led his position in the conference with three touchdowns and an impressive 11.7 yards per reception in his first season at EKU.
Ezirim tacks the honor to his growing list of honors in 2023 as the offensive lineman put together a dominant season on the offensive line for EKU starting every game for the highest rated offense in the conference.
Fellow offensive lineman and Ohio native
Payton Collins joins Ezirim on the first team as the dynamic duo paved the way for EKU's offense that racked up 437.4 yards per game, for 4,811 total yards of offense with 37 touchdowns as a team on the season.
Earning two separate first team selections was Frazier, Ky. Native
Braedon Sloan who was recognized as the conference's top "all-purpose" player on offense and kick returner on special teams.
Running the ball, Sloan recorded 765 yards on the ground and 467 yards receiving with 13 total touchdowns.
In total, Sloan recorded 1,636 all-purpose yards in 2023, the third most in FCS football while leading the conference.
Defensively,
Logan Blake adds another All-UAC honor to his resume after finishing fourth in all of FCS Football with 114 tackles, the best in the conference.
Cracking the All-UAC second team for EKU was
Joshua Carter,
Jaden Smith,
John Stone, and
Patrick Nations.
Carter gets the second team nod after a 2023 campaign that saw him record 714 yards on the ground and four touchdowns.
Wide receiver
Jaden Smith's recognition comes as the Atlanta native recorded 781 receiving yards, the second most in the UAC, finished 10th in the nation in receptions per game (6.6), and added five touchdown receptions.
Ashland, Ky. native
John Stone joins fellow lineman Ezirim and Collins in receiving all-conference recognition after appearing in 10 games on the offensive line for the Colonels in 2023.
Nations second team special teams selection comes as the South Carlina kicker led the nation in field goals per game (1.73) while going 19-of-25 on the season for field goals with an additional 31 PATs, and a total of 88 points on the season.
