EKU Ready For Senior Night On Saturday Against North Alabama

RICHMOND, Ky. – After winning its 12th straight home game on Thursday, the Eastern Kentucky University men's basketball team will play its final regular season home contest on Saturday against North Alabama.
 
The game, presented by Coca-Cola, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET and air live on ESPN+.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, or worldwide on EKUSports.com.
 
Senior Day activities, honoring Michael Moreno, Cooper Robb and Michael Wardy, will be held before the game.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  The series is tied 1-1 after each team won on its home floor in two meetings last season.  The Lions won the first-ever match-up, 76-75, on Jan. 11, 2022.  The Colonels won the rematch, 80-76, in overtime, on Feb. 16, 2022. 
 
-  EKU overcame an 18-point first half deficit and to beat North Alabama last February.  Moreno led the Colonels with 24 points and eight rebounds.  CJ Brim had a team-best 22 points for UNA.  The Lions shot 49 percent from the field for the game.  Eastern Kentucky made 34 percent of its shots, but used 17 steals to force 25 turnovers.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (18-10, 11-4 ASUN) beat Central Arkansas on Thursday, 74-58.  The Colonels remain in third place in the ASUN standings, one game behind second place Liberty and one game in front of fourth place Stetson.
 
-  The Colonels are first in the conference, and 14th in the country, in rebounds (39.32/game).
 
-  EKU is 27th in the country in blocks per game (4.75).  Isaiah Cozart had seven blocks against Central Arkansas.  He is first in the ASUN, and 11th in the NCAA, with 2.36 bpg.  He is eighth in the nation in total blocks (66).
 
-  Moreno posted a double-double against Central Arkansas on Thursday, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  He is eighth in the ASUN with 6.36 rebounds per game.
 
-  The Colonels lead the ASUN and are 10th in the nation with 13.32 offensive rebounds per game.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  North Alabama is 17-11 overall and 9-6 in ASUN games.  The Lions are one of the hottest teams in the league, having won four straight and eight of their last nine.   
 
-  North Alabama is 50th in the nation in field goal percentage (47.0), 29th in 3-point field goal percentage (37.4) and 50th in fewest turnovers (11.2).
 
-  Daniel Ortiz, a 6-foot sophomore guard, leads the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game.  Jacari Lane (12.4 ppg), a 6-foot freshman guard, and KJ Johnson (12.2 ppg), a 6-foot-3 junior guard, provide a balanced scoring attack.
 
-  Damian Forrest, a 6-foot-9 junior forward, is averaging a team-best 6.6 rebounds per game.
 
-  In a 70-57 win at Bellarmine on Thursday, Lane and Johnson led the team with 15 points each.  Ortiz finished with eight points, seven rebounds and two steals.
