EKU Softball Ends Weekend 3-2 at UNCW Tournament

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball program extends its record to 10-5 over the weekend with wins over Georgetown, UNCW, and App State, going 3-2 overall at the UNCW Tournament.
 
The Colonels (10-5) completed its third weekend of the 2023 season, once again going positive in the results.
 
EKU claimed wins over Georgetown (Twice) and UNCW, splitting the weekend against the Seahawks. The Colonels other loss came in the lone game against Appalachian State on Sunday to conclude the tournament.
 
Vianna Barron led the Colonels going 9-of-19 (.473) from the plate with two doubles, a home run, and seven runs batted in. 
 
Freshman Jaelin Haynes followed with seven hits and a team-leading seven runs over five-game span.
 
Lou Bowers, a senior from Tyrone, Ga., tallied six hits, including two home runs in the first game of the tournament against Georgetown with four runs batted in.
 
Sophomore Maggie Pertee went 3-of-4 from the plate in the second meeting against host school UNCW, her season-high hits in a single game this year.
 
Freshman Brooke Davis went 2-0 from the circle this weekend, earning wins in both her starting nods against Georgetown and UNCW.
 
Emma Bethel, a Loudon, Tenn. product, earned her second collegiate win as a hurler, throwing 4.2 in the second meeting with the Hoyas.
 
EKU returns to Richmond to prepare for the Colonels Classic, where the Colonels host Dayton, Indiana State, and Ohio from March 2-4. EKU's next 12 games will be played at Gertrude Hood Field, its longest stretch of the season, which also includes regional rivals WKU, Louisville, Valpo, and ASUN Conference play against Liberty.
