Riley, Haynes Homer in Colonels Sweep Over Valpo

RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU softball (15-8) completes its first three-game sweep over an opponent since Lipscomb on May 1, 2022, defeating Valpo on Sunday afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field, 7-0 in five innings.

The Colonels claimed the series with 4-3, 15-2, and 8-0 results on Saturday and Sunday. Games two and three resulted in mercy rule after the fifth inning.

Junior Jeanay Riley led the Colonels with a perfect 3-for-3 day from the plate, including her third homer of the season with 3 RBIs.

Maggie Pertee followed with two hits, her two hits on Sunday pushed her to 6-of-11 from the plate over Valpo this weekend.

Jasmine Miller went 1-for-1 from the plate with a 3-run home run, her fourth of the season while also earning two walks in her other at bats.

EKU opened the scoring barrage with a Pertee double to the left center gap that brought home Barron. The Uniontown, Ohio native ended the three-game series going 6-of-11 from the plate with one homerun and two doubles.

Riley sent a 2-run homerun, her third of the season, to end the inning 3-0 in EKU's favor.

The Colonels came alive in the bottom of the third as Miller knocked a 3-run blast over the left field wall to put EKU up 6-0. Sunday's homer marked Miller's fourth in the last six games.

EKU once again loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth, Riley hit a towering fly ball out to centerfield that was botched by the Beacons' outfielder that scored Lou Bowers. Freshman Lilly Davis hit in Pertee off a fielder's choice to place the Colonels at the eight-run threshold needed to run rule Valpo.

Lauren Narvaez shut the door on the Beacons in the bottom of the fifth, ending her day with three strikeouts. Narvaez improves her record to 8-4 on the season and earned her sixth complete game, second shutout.

EKU will begin year two as a member institution in the ASUN Conference next weekend, hosting Liberty in a three-game series beginning on Friday and running through Sunday. Sunday's game is the only contest available on ESPN+.
