RICHMOND, Ky. – Will King is on the official watch list for the 2023 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award.

King is one of 65 catchers from across all NCAA Division I teams on the initial watch list.

The watch list will be narrowed to the semifinalists on May 22.  Ballots will be sent to the national voting committee at the end of May to determine the three finalists.  Those finalists will be announced June 6.  A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series.  All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced on June 29.

Only three catchers from the ASUN Conference are on the watch list.

King started the season hitting .300 through the first seven games before suffering an injury.  He has two home runs, six RBIs and seven runs scored.  The junior from New York, New York has a .500 slugging percentage.

King was chosen preseason All-ASUN by coaches and Perfect Game.  D1 Baseball ranked King as the No. 8 draft prospect in the ASUN.  In February, King was chosen to the watch list for the 2023 Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award, which is based on performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity.

The 5-foot-9, 195-pound King was a First Team All-ASUN pick, earned a spot on the ASUN All-Tournament Team and was also on the watch list for the Buster Posey Award in 2022.  Last season, King batted .313 with 19 doubles, 11 home runs, 60 RBIs and 31 runs last season.  He tied for seventh in the ASUN in RBIs, was sixth in doubles, 13th in slugging, tied for 15th in home runs, tied for 18th in hits (68) and was 21st in average.

The Colonels open a 3-game ASUN series at home against in-state rival Bellarmine on Friday.  Fans can get an exclusive green color cup at the concessions stand with the purchase of a beverage on Friday.  Baseball Bingo returns as well on Friday.  Saturday is the first EKU trading card giveaway of the season.  Sunday will be Kids Day and Sandlot Day.  All kids 12 and under receive FREE admission.
