KENNESAW, Ga. – Entering the second weekend of ASUN Conference softball action, EKU (15-12, 0-3 ASUN) heads to Kennesaw State (9-19, 1-2 ASUN) to play a three-game series at Bailey Park on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Game times for the series will be at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Lauren Narvaez,
Brooke Davis, and
Emma Bethel are all probably pitchers over the weekend.
This weekend's series will be available to stream on KSU's in-house production, KSU Owl Network beginning 10 minutes before each game.
The Colonels are coming off a midweek loss to Louisville by a score of 10-1. EKU was on the wrong end of a sweep last weekend against Liberty, dropping the series by an overall score of 21-4.
After 27 games,
Vianna Barron leads EKU with a .366 batting average and 34 hits. Sophomore
Maggie Pertee lurks behind with a .363 average from the plate and 33 hits.
Senior
Lou Bowers leads the program with seven home runs on the season, her totals are good for 53rd in the NCAA and second in the ASUN.
Narvaez sits atop the pitching staff with an 8-7 record from the circle on 98.2 innings pitched. Davis leads the staff with a 2.66 earned run average in 14 appearances with two saves.
This weekend's series is the first meeting between KSU and EKU in ASUN Conference play, the Owls claimed the last meeting in 2008 by a score of 13-5 in Kennesaw. KSU leads the all-time series 2-1.
Scouting Kennesaw State
The Owls are off to a 9-19 overall start and 1-2 in conference play, dropping its last game in midweek fashion to Georgia, 9-0. Last weekend KSU went 1-2 against Austin Peay in Clarksville in an exciting series with 1-3, 3-2, 1-4 results.
KSU competed in the non-conference slate with losses at Georgia Tech, Alabama, and Central Florida.
Kennesaw State is led by head coach Tripp MacKay, where in five season he's obtained a 106-107 overall record.
KSU is led by graduate student Taylor Cates, who sports a .341 batting average, leading the team in hits (28), doubles (9), home runs (3), and RBIs (19).
The Owls' one-two punch from the circle has combined for 128 innings, Melanie Bennett accounting for 63 innings and Kenley Hilleary 65 innings. Bennett has an overall record of 4-4 and Hilleary leads the team with a 3.18 ERA with three wins and six losses.
