KENNESAW, Ga. – Eastern Kentucky University took an early 2-0 lead, but the Colonels lost 5-4 at Kennesaw State on Sunday in the finale of the ASUN Conference three-game series.

EKU will host in-state rival Morehead State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

After falling behind early in each of the first two games of the series, the Colonels turned the tables and took an early lead in game three.Â
Charlie Ludwick started the second inning with a double to right field. With a 3-2 count,
Roderick Criss II deposited a hanging breaking ball over the wall in left field for a 2-run shot and a 2-0 EKU advantage.Â
DJ Sullivan and
Michael Goehrig also had hits later in the inning, but did not score.

Kennesaw State got on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Brayden Eidson. The Owls then scored four times in the fourth to take the lead. Wade Richardson's RBI single through the right side capped the big inning and made it 5-2 in favor of the home team.

The Colonels got within one in the top of the eighth.Â
Santiago Peralta drove in
Ron Franklin Jr. with a two-out single to center. After
Miguel Larreal singled to right,
Jalen Jones drove a ball into right to plate Peralta.

Ludwick finished 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run scored. Criss went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs. Sullivan and Goehrig also finished with two hits each.

Chase Alderman pitched three and one-third innings of scoreless relief for the Colonels (8-15, 1-5 ASUN). He allowed just two base runners.

Richardson went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Kennesaw State (11-11, 3-3 ASUN). Starter Nick Zegna (3-2) allowed two runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out nine in six innings to earn the win.
