RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU softball (12-7) drops its Colonel Classic finale to Indiana State (7-7) by a score of 6-1 on Sunday evening at Gertrude Hood Field, ending the weekend 2-2.
Sophomore
Maggie Pertee scraped the only run across for EKU, knocking her third home run of the season down the left field line.
Emma Bethel earned her sixth start of the season, tossing three innings with three earned runs off three hits and three walks.
After nine-inning extras show the night prior, which saw the Sycamores claim the 4-3 battle, both teams struggled offensively holding eachother to no runs in the first two innings.
Indiana State jolted in the top of the third, bringing in four runs off a fielder's choice through the left side and a three-run homer from Isabelle Henning.
The Sycamores padded their lead in the top half of the fifth with three hits to extend ISU's lead to 6-0.
Pertee's home run in the bottom of the sixth was the only run EKU scored in Sunday's contest. Indiana State would hold on to its lead despite a
Madison Scott single in the bottom of the seventh, her 11th hit of the season.
Indiana State outhit EKU 7-3, the Colonels left seven runners on base.
EKU returns to action, continuing its 12-game home stand hosting regional foe Western Kentucky on Wednesday and its first home three-game series with Valpo, a team EKU bested 9-2 earlier in the year, on Saturday and Sunday.
