HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Despite a late comeback effort by the home team, EKU softball (17-17, 1-8 ASUN) outlasts Northern Kentucky's (9-22, 4-3 Horizon) late presence by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday night at Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field.
Vianna Barron and
Rylie Grantz led the Colonels going 2-of-4 from the plate.
Lou Bowers brought in a team-leading two runs batted in off two sacrifice flys in the first inning and fifth inning.
Seven of EKU's 10 batters got a hit in Tuesday's contest.
Sophomore
Lauren Narvaez earned the win to move to 9-11 on the season, tossing 6.2 innings allowing nine hits, four runs, striking out two batters.
Freshman
Brooke Davis earned her third save on the season, getting the Norse last batter out to close the game.
Barron opened the game with a double to right field from the four hole, scoring Pertee and Riley. EKU would continue its three-run first at bat with a sacrifice fly by Bowers and a single from
Jasmine Miller.
Narvaez kept Northern Kentucky at bay not allowing a run through the first five innings, striking out one batter.
EKU padded its lead in the top of the fifth as Bowers hit her second run in off another sac fly to left, scoring Barron for the 5-0 lead.
Northern Kentucky started its late rally in the bottom half of the inning off an error, walk, and a single, bringing in one run.
NKU opened the bottom of the seventh with a single and double, bringing in the leadoff hitter for its first run of the game. A grounder to second base brough in NKU's second run and advancing runner into scoring position.
The Norse hit a 2-run homer with two outs in their last chance to hit, prompting the EKU pitching change. Davis forced the last batter into a 2-2 count and a pop fly to the Colonels' catcher
Lilly Davis to end the game in EKU's favor, 5-4.
Both teams equaled nine hits in Tuesday's affair and left seven-or-more runner on base, EKU earned four walks to NKU's one.

EKU returns to action on Thursday and Friday against ASUN Conference foe Jacksonville, marking the Colonels first home game in over seven games.
