EKU Sweeps Doubleheader Against Jacksonville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU softball team rallied from a four-run deficit in the final frame of game one and exploded for nine runs in the first two innings of game two as the Colonels secured a series win and a doubleheader sweep over Jacksonville on Thursday at Gertrude Hood Field. 

EKU (19-17, 3-8 ASUN) will look to complete the sweep of Jacksonville (18-19, 4-7 ASUN) on Friday at 12:00 p.m. 

EKU trailed the Dolphins 4-0 entering the bottom of the seventh of game one. The Colonels loaded the bases with no outs and Jeanay Riley put EKU on the board with a single off the pitcher's leg to score Rylie Grantz. Maggie Pertee was hit by a pitch to cut the deficit in half and Vianna Barron followed with a two-run single to tie the game. Lou Bowers capped the rally with a sacrifice fly to right field that brought Pertee home to give EKU a wild 5-4 win. 

Lauren Narvaez (10-11) earned the win, striking out five and allowing four runs on seven hits in a complete-game effort. Grantz, Barron, and Jaelin Haynes each tallied two hits in the victory. 

The Colonels' bats stayed hot to open game two as Barron singled home Haynes and Jasmine Miller launched a grand slam to give EKU a 5-0 first-inning lead.

EKU tacked on four more runs in the second inning with an RBI double from Haynes and a sacrifice fly from Pertee. Barron capped the inning with an RBI triple and scored herself on a throwing error to make the score 9-2. 

Jacksonville plated two in the top of the fourth, but Riley pushed EKU's lead back to seven with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth. The Dolphins managed to score twice in the top of the seventh, but the Colonels held on for an 11-6 victory. 

Brooke Davis (5-4) picked up the win, surrendering four runs on seven hits in 4.0 innings. Narvaez tossed 3.0 innings of relief to record her second save of the season. EKU's defense turned five double plays over the course of two games.
