HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Ron Franklin Jr. hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning to break a 6-6 tie as Eastern Kentucky University beat Northern Kentucky, 10-7, on Tuesday.
 
NKU (26-17) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out, solo home run by Manny Vorhees.  
Jalen Jones was hit by a pitch to start the eighth inning.  
Matthew Corlew followed with a single to center.  Both came home when Franklin sent a 2-0 pitch over the wall in left field to make it 9-6.
 
The Norse platted a run in the bottom half of the eighth to get within two, but 
DJ Sullivan's lead-off home run in the ninth pushed the Colonels (21-24) back in front by three.
 
Franklin finished 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.  Sullivan was 2-for-4 with a walk, a run and two driven in.  
Logan Thomason scored three times, walked once and went 2-for-4 at the plate.
 
Miguel Larreal's two-run home run in the second inning staked EKU to a 4-0 lead.  The Norse scored twice in the bottom half of the second and three more in the third to swing the lead in their favor, 5-4.
 
Will King's single in the fourth brought in Franklin to tie the game.  Thomason scored on the same hit after a Northern Kentucky error for a 6-5 lead.
 
Vorhees had a 2-for-4 day with two runs and two RBIs for Northern Kentucky.
 
EKU will play at Morehead State on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
