DELAND, Fla. – Eastern Kentucky University surrendered seven runs in the first three innings in an 8-3 loss to Stetson on Tuesday in the first game in Pool B of the 2023 ASUN Tournament.

David Bermudez started the scoring for Stetson (34-22) with a solo home run in the bottom of the first. Brandon Hylton added an RBI single later in the inning. After platting two more runs in the second, the Hatters pulled away with three in the third. Andrew Estrella had a two-run single and Bermudez added a sacrifice fly.Â

Logan Thomason's single up the middle in the fifth scored EKU's first run of the game.Â
Charlie Ludwick added a bases loaded walk to make it 7-2.

Max Williams hit a solo home run down the right field line in the top of the sixth. It was his fourth of the season.Â

Williams had a 2-for-4 day with two runs and an RBI. Estrella finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Hatters. Bermudez went 3-for-4 with a run and two driven in.

The Colonels (28-29) continue pool play at the ASUN Tournament on Wednesday against Austin Peay. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET. All tournament games will be played at Melching Field at Conrad Park and air live on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE NEXT OPPONENT
- Austin Peay posted a 25-30 record during the regular season and went 15-15 in ASUN games. The Governors were 12-6 in league play before losing their final four series of the season.

-  Second Team All-ASUN designated hitter Lyle Miller-Green leads the team in batting average (.358), home runs (16) and RBIs (50). He is third on the squad in runs scored (49). The 6-foot-5 senior also pitches for APSU. He went 1-6 with an 8.88 ERA while making 13 starts.

-  The Austin Peay offense is third in the ASUN in average (.300), third in runs (397), third in stolen bases (86) and leads the league in doubles (135). The Governors are second in the conference in on-base percentage (.393) and slugging (.493). APSU's pitching staff struck out the fourth-most batters (500) in the ASUN this season, but allowed the fourth-most runs (441).

-  The outfield duo of Garrett Martin and Clayton Gray earned second team and third team all-conference honors, respectively. Martin led the team with 55 runs while batting .333 with 15 home runs and 46 RBIs. Gray hit .339 with 50 runs, 33 RBIs and 22 stolen bases.
-  Jacob Kush, who has been Austin Peay's game one starter for the second half of the season, will start on the mound Wednesday. The senior right-hander is 5-4 with a 6.78 ERA and 75 strikeouts across 67 and two-thirds innings.
