Riding A Three-Match Winning Streak, Volleyball Set For First Home Match

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University will play its first home match of the season on Tuesday against Marshall at Baptist Health Arena.  The Colonels are riding a 3-match winning streak.
 
The match will begin at 6 p.m. and air live on ESPN+.  Fans can receive a FREE EKU belt bag and there will be FREE Kona Ice for EKU students.
 
THE COLONELS
-  The Colonels stand at 4-2 after winning three matches at the Miami Invitational over the weekend.  EKU lost just one set on its way to victories over Florida Atlantic (3-1), Cleveland State (3-0) and Miami (Ohio) (3-0).
 
-  The trio of AG Vandagriff, Sarah Mitchell and Josie Schmitendorf earned Miami Invitational All-Tournament honors.  Vandagriff was selected as the MVP after averaging 2.70 kills and 1.30 blocks per set over three matches.  Mitchell averaged 3.20 kills while hitting .342.  Schmitendorf contributed 4.50 digs per set.
 
-  EKU leads the Atlantic Sun Conference with 14.75 kills per set.  The Colonels are third in hitting percentage (.237), fourth in opponent's hitting percentage (.200) and fifth in blocks (2.15 per set).
 
-  Carson Ledford is second in the ASUN with 1.35 blocks per set.  Schmitendorf is sixth with 4.25 digs per set.  Chloe Mason is seventh with 0.40 aces per set.
 
-  The Colonels had 19 service aces in three matches this past weekend and limited their opponents to only four aces.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Marshall is 3-4 overall.  The Thundering Herd hosted four matches as part of the Marshall Invitational this past weekend.  The team lost to Morehead State (3-0), Akron (3-2) and Coppin State (3-2), but beat UNC Greensboro (3-1).  
 
-  Setter Brynn Brown leads the team with 6.77 assists and 2.27 kills per set.  Lydia Montague (1.14) and Beatrice Ciccarelli (1.00) lead the team in blocks.  
 
-  The Thundering Herd have out-hit their opponents .249 to .210.  Marshall averages 2.0 blocks per set while its foes are blocking just 1.6 per set.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  The Colonels are 20-10 all-time against Marshall.  The first meeting was in 1971.  The most recent meeting was on Sept. 27, 2022. 
 
-  In last year's match in Huntington, EKU picked up a 3-1 win.  Mitchell had 15 kills and three aces.  Mason had 20 assists and four aces.  As a team the Colonels served up 10 aces while the Thundering Herd only had two.
