OXFORD, Ohio – The EKU soccer team (1-4-1) looks to get back in the win column with its non-conference finale on Sunday, Sept. 10 against Miami (Ohio) at Bobby Kramig Field.
Sunday's match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff and can be viewed on Veo, the official streaming partner of Miami soccer.
The Colonels dropped its last match to Northern Kentucky on Thursday by a score of 2-0. EKU's effort was highlighted by midfielders
Kylie Fitzgerald and
Nerea de Diego, who attempted the team's only two shots on goal. de Diego's shot on frame was her first of the season after being cleared to play just two matches ago.
Offensively,
Ruby Dunlevy leads EKU with two goals on the season and has connected 62.5 percent of her shots on target. Junior forward
Gretta Gunn leads the team with three assists, which ranks first in the ASUN Conference and 59th nationally.
Miami (2-3-1) enters Sunday coming off a 2-0 loss to Marshall on the road last time out, the team has wins over Southern Indiana (1-0), UIC (1-0), and an exhibition win over Louisville (2-1) this non-conference slate.
Through six fixtures, the Redhawks have scored two goals from Julia Kure and Makenna Morrison. Morrison leads the squad with 17 shot attempts and five shots on frame. In goal, Dominique Popa has recorded 19 saves and two clean sheets, she's allowed six goals in three losses.
Sunday's match is the fourth meeting between EKU and Miami, who leads the all-time series 2-1. EKU is seeking its first win over the Redhawks since 2011.
With a win last Sunday over Eastern Michigan, EKU has defeated four different Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponents since head coach
Matt Cosinuke took the helm in 2019. A win over Miami would mark the fifth different MAC school defeated under his leadership.
