RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team has added former Kentucky standout
Sarah Rainwater as its newest Director of Softball Operations, announced on Tuesday morning by head coach
Jane Worthington.
In her role, Rainwater will help oversee all aspects of the program, including managing the budget, player development, academics, and facilitating team travel.
"I am excited to join the softball program as the director of softball operations, as I have an incredible amount of respect for Coach Worthington and her staff," said Rainwater. "Collegiate softball has always been the level I wanted to be a part of again. I am grateful for this opportunity."
From 2016-19, Rainwater was a member of the University of Kentucky softball program and helped the Wildcats to three NCAA Super Regional appearances. During her time in Lexington, UK went 152-73 (.675) overall and 75-37 (.670) at home.
In her career, Sarah appeared in 178 games as a utility player with 35 hits and a four-year 97 percent fielding percentage.
Rainwater was a prep standout at East Jessamine High School in neighboring Nicholasville, she led the Jaguars to four KHSAA 46th District Championships, two 12th Region Championships, and two KHSAA State Tournament appearances.
She hit .330 her senior season which led to her selection as the Kentucky 2-A Player of the Year and WKYT All-State Member. Rainwater was also a two-time selection to the Kentucky High School East/West All-Star Team from 2014-15.
Prior to EKU, Rainwater had coaching stints with her alma mater, East Jessamine, and served as the head softball coach at local George Rogers Clark High School.
Rainwater graduated from Kentucky in 2019 with a bachelor's in integrated strategic communications. She most recently earned her master's in sport leadership while working as a GA with Kentucky Athletics.
