EKU Makes It Five Straight With Sweep Of Jacksonville

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Four players had nine or 10 kills each and four players had three or more blocks as Eastern Kentucky University swept Jacksonville, 3-0, on Friday for the Colonels' fifth straight victory.

AG Vandagriff led EKU (15-7, 6-3 ASUN) with 10 kills.  Sarah Mitchell, Kambree Lucas and Carson Ledford had nine kills each.  Vandagriff did not commit an error and posted a .556 attack percentage.  Ledford had one error in 18 attempts for a .444 attack percentage.  Lucas hit .318 on the night.

Paige Wagers had a match-best eight blocks.  Ledford finished with five while Lucas and Emilee Hill had three each.  The Colonels out-blocked the Dolphins 13-5.

EKU won by scores of 25-14, 26-24 and 25-23.

The maroon and white jumped out to a quick start by scoring eight of the first nine points of the match.  Lucas made it 8-1 with a kill.  A service ace from Lucas stretched the margin to eight, 13-5.  The Colonels went up by 10, 23-13, on a setter kill from freshman Cooper Abney.  Mitchell's kill wrapped up the opener by a 25-14 score.

The Colonels went in front by four, 9-5, early in the second set on a kill from Ledford.  EKU had a 3-point advantage, 17-14, when Wagers and Hill blocked a Jacksonville attack.  The Dolphins (10-11, 5-4 ASUN) answered with a 5-0 run to turn that 3-point deficit into a 2-point advantage.  Cami Kelsay made it 19-17 with a kill.  An EKU attack error put JU up 23-21, before three straight gave the home team set-point.  Two of the three came off Dolphin attack errors and one point was from Hill's kill.  Back-to-back errors, a service error and an attack error, from Jacksonville gave the Colonels a 26-24 win and a 2-0 lead.

Neither team led by more than three in the third set until four straight pushed EKU ahead by five, 16-11.  Hill capped the run with a kill.  JU battled back to tie it at 18-18.  However, Ledford and Mitchell responded with back-to-back kills and EKU led the rest of the way.  Hill gave her squad match-point at 24-22 with a kill.  Mitchell finished it off, 25-23, with a kill.

The Colonels hit .343 as a team while limiting Jacksonville to a .196 attack percentage.

JU's Breanna McDonough led all players with 17 kills.  She made just four errors in 29 attempts and had a .448 attack percentage.  No other player had more than six kills for the Dolphins.
