Colonels Conclude Volleyball Regular Season At Home This Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. – The regular season will come to an end this weekend at home for the Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team.  The Colonels will host Central Arkansas on Friday and North Alabama on Saturday.
 
Friday's match will start at 6 p.m. while Saturday's tilt will get underway at 4 p.m.  Both matches will air live on ESPN+.  There will be a coffee bar and iced coffee cup giveaway on Friday.  Senior Day is set for Saturday.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (19-8, 10-4 ASUN) has won nine of its last 10 matches and now sits in fourth place in the ASUN.  The Colonels are coming off a 3-1 win at Stetson on Saturday.
 
-  Since the start of the 2023 season, EKU has a 40-17 record.
 
Josie Schmitendorf was chosen as the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week, for the fourth time this season, after averaging 5.25 digs per set.
 
Sarah Mitchell picked up ASUN Player of the Week honors after averaging 4.88 kills, 2.50 digs and 0.63 aces per set while hitting .362.
 
-  As a team, EKU leads the ASUN in kills (13.57/set) and assists (12.73/set).  The Colonels are second in points (17.16/set) and digs (16.54/set), and third in blocks (2.15/set).
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
-  Central Arkansas is 14-11 and 11-3 in ASUN matches.  The Sugar Bears sit in third place in the league standings, one game ahead of EKU.  UCA is 2-2 in their last four, but are coming off a 3-0 win at home against Austin Peay.
 
-  Laci Bohannan averages a team-best 3.87 kills per set, which ranks third in the ASUN.  Allison Holloway leads the team with 0.90 blocks per set.
 
-  North Alabama is 15-12 overall and 9-5 in ASUN matches.  The Lions are tied for fifth in the ASUN, one game behind the Colonels.  UNA has lost two of its past three, including a 3-1 setback at home against Lipscomb on Sunday.  
 
-  Reese Ricketts leads the team, and is fifth in the ASUN, with 3.63 kills per set.  Jasmine Brooks offers a potent 1-2 punch with an average of 3.46 kills per set, seventh-best in the conference. 
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  EKU holds a 4-2 advantage in the series against Central Arkansas.  The Colonels swept the season series last year, but the Sugar Bears earned a 3-1 victory on their home court earlier this season. 
 
-  The series with North Alabama is tied 3-3.  The two teams split a pair of matches in 2023 with each squad winning by a 3-1 score on its home court.  The Lions kept that trend going this year with a 3-1 win in Florence on Oct. 4.
