RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University's football program has released its complete schedule for the 2025 season as announced by head coach
Walt Wells, Monday afternoon.
The 2025 slate features six home games at CG Bank Field at Roy Kidd Stadium and six road fixtures.
The Colonels will have four non-conference games with two road games against FBS opponents and two home games against FCS foes.
Tickets, game times, and promotions for the 2025 season will be available at a later date.
EKU will open the season on the road against in-state foe, Louisville from the Atlantic Coast Conference on Aug. 30.
The Colonels have eight wins all-time against the Cardinals with the last meeting between the schools coming in 2021.
The home opener for EKU will be on Sept. 6 against Houston Christian of the Southland Conference.
The Huskies went 5-7 in 2024 with two losses against FBS opponents and one win over non-Division I Louisiana Christian.
The meeting will mark the second all-time between the programs, the first coming in 2020 when the school was still named Houston Baptist.
Following the home opener, the Colonels will head on the road for back-to-back weeks facing Marshall on Sept. 13, and conference foe West Georgia on Sept. 20.
The trip to Huntington, W. Va. will be EKU's first since 2020 which marked the first game of the
Walt Wells era.
EKU opens UAC play against the Wolves of UWG on the 20th with the first meeting all-time between the two happening this past season which resulted in a 26-7 win for EKU.
On Sept. 27, it will be a clash of the Colonels in Roy Kidd Stadium as Nicholls State University comes to Richmond for the final non-conference game of 2025.
It will be the first time EKU and Nicholls have ever met on the gridiron. In 2024, Nicholls went 4-8 on the season and 2-5 in Southland Conference play.
EKU will be off on Oct. 4 for its one open week of the season before heading into the rest of its United Athletic Conference slate.
Longtime rival Austin Peay comes to Richmond on Oct. 11 with the Governors looking to avenge 2024's, 30-27 overtime loss to EKU.
The game is sure to be a thriller with three of the last six meetings needing overtime to decide it.
Oct. 18 sees the fourth meeting between EKU and North Alabama as the Colonels will travel to Florence, Ala. looking to stay perfect against the Lions all-time.
EKU then returns home to face the Texans of Tarleton State on Oct. 25 with EKU winning the previous three meetings including a thrilling upset of the then No. 7 Texans in 2024 by a score of 17-3, and a double-overtime victory in Richmond in 2023.
On Nov. 1, EKU will head back on the road to face Central Arkansas in what promises to be another close game with the last two meetings being decided by one score or less with EKU taking the 2024 contest, 31-24.
The Colonels then prepare for back-to-back home contests on Nov. 8 and Nov. 15 against Southern Utah and defending UAC Champion, Abilene Christian respectively.
2025's regular season schedule comes to an end on the road for EKU as the Colonels will make their second trip ever to St. George, Utah to face the Trailblazers of Utah Tech.
The Colonels are 2-0 against the Trailblazers with both wins coming in the past two seasons.
