RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team dominated Central Connecticut scoring 25 runs in 10 innings, taking two over the Blue Demons on Sunday afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field.
EKU (16-4) defeated CCSU 15-0 in game one and 10-0 in game two, marking 12 straight wins at home, its longest home winning streak in over five seasons. The Colonels, currently riding a six-game winning streak on the season, have outscored their last six opponents by a combined 48 to 2 with four shutouts.
Freshman infielder
Kennedy Drafton improves her season batting average to .462 going 4-of-6 on the day, including a 4-for-4 performance in game one. EKU's
Maggie Pertee and
Vianna Barron recorded home runs in game two, their first and second of the season, respectively.
Freshman two-way player
Maddi Rutan (8-2) earned the win in game one tossing 3.0 innings with five strikeouts. Additionally,
Victoria Byrum (4-1) earned the win in game two throwing 4.0 innings with two K's.
The Colonels outhit Central Connecticut 25 to 5 on Sunday.
Game 1: EKU 15, CCSU 0 (5 inn.)
Rutan opened game one striking out two Blue Devil hitters in the top of the first inning. The home Colonels scored six in the bottom of the frame from
Jeanay Riley,
Jaelin Haynes,
Madison Scott, Barron, and Drafton.
In the top of the second, Rutan fanned two additional CCSU hitters, including a backwards K for the third out. EKU added five more runs in the bottom off five hits and an error, padding the Colonel lead to 11-0.
Rutan added her fifth and final strikeout of the day getting CCSU's Desaulniers swinging on a full count. EKU added three runs in the bottom of the third off hits from
Sharyn Duncan,
Lilly Davis, and Haynes, for a 14-0 lead.
The Colonels scored their 15th and final run of game one in the bottom of the fourth. EKU claimed the game 15-0 when it was called in the middle of the fifth.
Game 2: EKU 10, CCSU 0 (5 inn.)
Byrum got the call in game two and had a one-two-three top of the first inning. EKU scored six in the bottom off doubles from Pertee, Scott, and two singles.
Byrum struck out two in the top of the second, her only two K's of the day. Pertee struck a 3-run homer in the bottom of the frame to extend EKU's lead to 8-0.
A Barron 2-run homer in the bottom of the fourth sealed a 10-0 victory for EKU, her second of the season.

EKU hits the road on Wednesday to battle in-state rival Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. EST. After the game against WKU, the Colonels will open Atlantic Sun Conference play on the road at defending champion Central Arkansas over the weekend.
