KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Playing its seventh game of the season against a top-25 ranked team, Eastern Kentucky University lost at No. 5 Tennessee, 17-2, in seven innings on Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
 
The Colonels (2-15) limited the high-powered Volunteer offense to a pair of runs through the first two innings.  UT entered the game batting .329 as a team and averaging 10.5 runs per game. 
 
However, Tennessee (17-1) began to pull away in the third.  Dylan Dreiling hit a 2-run home run as part of a 5-run inning that pushed the deficit to 7-0 for EKU.
 
The Vols added six more in the fourth to get to a 13-0 lead.  Kavares Tears hit a solo home run and Christian Moore connected on a 2-run homer in the frame.
 
EKU loaded the bases in the fifth.  
Max Williams scored on a single through the right side by 
DJ Sullivan.  
Boone Shevey came home on a passed ball.
 
Miguel Larreal had two hits in two at bats.  Sullivan was 1-for-2 with a RBI.
 
Tears finished 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs for the Vols.  Hunter Ensley was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and three driven in.
 
EKU will begin Atlantic Sun Conference play on Friday at Central Arkansas.  The opener of the 3-game series is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
