MONROE, La. – The Eastern Kentucky University beach volleyball team opened the ULM Beach Invitational with a pair of wins on Friday.
The Colonels defeated Hendrix, 4-1 before knocking off ASUN Conference foe Central Arkansas, 3-2 for the second time this season.
EKU's No. 1 pair of
Sarah Mitchell and
Paityn Walker went 2-0 on the day continuing to lead the way in the Colonels two wins.
Also going undefeated was the pair of
Riley Cutler and
Madalyn Richardson who have stretched their winning streak as a duo to four matches in a row.
EKU rolled in their win over Hendrix, 4-1, starting with
Elpida Pitsigkoni and
Bailey Rima at the No. 4 match and
Rachel Mueller and
Gabriella Armitage at No. 5 getting the scoring going.
At No. 2 Richardson and Cutler cruised to a 21-11, 21-9 victory with Mitchelll and Walker taking the No. 1 match 21-15, 21-15.
In a tightly fought ASUN match against UCA, the Colonels took the No. 1, 3, and 4 matches to earn their second straight win over the Bears.
Walker and Mitchell handled business at the No. 1 spot winning 21-17, 21-13, with Richardson and Cutler winning the No. 3 match, 21-13, 21-19.
Mueller and Armitage came together at the No. 4 match in a three-set battle to secure the win taking the match, 21-16, 17-21, 15-6.
