RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU softball defeated North Alabama in a doubleheader by scores of 9-4 and 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field, extending the second active win streak in NCAA DI softball to 17.
With the wins, EKU (26-4, 8-0 ASUN) has won 17 straight games on the season and 17 home games dating back to the 2022 season. The Colonels have now won four consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference series and will be going for their fourth straight sweep tomorrow afternoon.
EKU is one win shy of tying the longest winning streak in program history.
Senior outfielder
Jeanay Riley ended Friday going 5-for-7 with two doubles, one homer, and two RBIs.
Two-way
Maddi Rutan (14-2) earned the decision in game one tossing 6.0 innings with five strikeouts. The Columbus, Indiana native also had a 2-run homer in the top of the fifth. EKU is 4-0 on the season in games that Rutan pitches and hits a home run.
Madison Scott went a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate from the 9-hole, scoring two of EKU's nine runs in game one.
In the opener, EKU totaled 11 hits from nine student-athletes. The Colonels held a 8-1 lead over North Alabama into the sixth inning, until UNA scored three runs off one hit and two walks. Riley's solo home run sealed the deal in the bottom of the inning, ending the contest at 9-4, EKU.
Rutan, a two-time ASUN Pitcher of the Week selection, earned her 14th win of the season while fanning five Lion batters. She's struck out five or more batters in eight games this season.
In game two to clinch the series, EKU's
Tayteum Vigansky was the highlight throwing a complete game shutout in 7.0 innings with two strikeouts.
EKU had another multi-hit performance from Riley, who had the team's only two hits, going 2-for-3 from the plate with one double. Freshman infielder
Kennedy Drafton brought in the only run of the game off a sac-fly to the outfield.
