Colonels Overcome 5-Run Deficit But Can't Hold On In Series Finale

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University erased Stetson's 5-0 lead, but the Colonels couldn't hold off the Hatters in a 13-9 loss on Saturday in the 3-game Atlantic Sun Conference series finale at Earle Combs Stadium.

Trailing 5-0 with no outs in the bottom of the third inning, EKU got on the board when Santiago Peralta hit a 2-run home run over the wall in right center.  It was his second of the season. Colby Ott followed with a solo shot over the wall in left field to make it 5-3.  It was his second this year as well.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth, the Colonels took a 6-5 lead on a 3-run home run by Ehinger Adrianza.  It was his first of the season.

The Hatters (19-9, 7-2 ASUN) grabbed the lead back on a 2-run home run by Logan Hughes in the top of the fifth inning.  Stetson went up 8-6 on an RBI single from Kyle Jones in the sixth.

The Colonels (8-21, 5-4 ASUN) rallied again, scoring twice in the seventh to tie the score.  Conner Davis drove in Ott with a double to left center.  Elijah Underhill's first collegiate hit was an RBI single to right center that knotted the score at 8-8.

The game didn't remain tied for long.  Yohann Dessureault, the first batter in the top of the eighth, hit a home run over the wall in center field.  Stetson tacked on four more runs in the inning to stretch the margin back to five, 13-8.

Ott went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Peralta finished 2-for-4 with a run and two driven in.  Adrianza had one hit in four at bats, walked once, scored twice and had three RBIs.

The Colonels are scheduled to play at Morehead State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
